tinker: to work in the manner of a tinker especially to repair, adjust, or work with something in an unskilled or experimental manner; to repair, adjust, or experiment with.
I am a tinkerer several generations too late. I have an insatiable urge to know what every button or switch does and tend to break something so I can learn how to put it back together. A dictionary definition of tinker is to work unskillfully or clumsily at anything. We learn by failure.

OMG thank you for this.
Excellent video. Don't be offended if I steal a few ideas (with attribution of course) for my own channel because I have a similar problem with custom packaging.
Go for it! We're all here to help and I appreciate the offer to give credit :)
I really appreciate you having the mouse have a 'travel color', does it make easier to follow and track the mouse.
Thanks. This video is actually pretty outdated and I really should make a more modern version but I do try to keep the mouse highlighted when I remember to turn it on :)
Could you post a link for the glue applicator? Thanks.
Here is an Amazon link for them but you can find them at local craft stores as well: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KJCYLKX
@@thetinkerverse Thank you
Is there a way to change/move the start node where you want it to start cutting?
Yes, there is a tool down between Circle Array and Corner Radius that is called Set Shape Start Point. If you highlight your shape and choose this, you can then select the node that you would like to start your job from. There are modifiers for direction and reset if you hover over the tool button.
@@thetinkerverse thank you!
Thanks for your time
Cool idea. Thanks Can you send me the stl file for the 3d Print?
Great job. Hmm. Could you add the name in the middle and put it in with the cut? Short and to the point. Lets see what's in the revised vid.
Definitely. I actually covered that in this video: ruclips.net/video/-AawPw6KV10/видео.html
What are the exact colours we have to assign in Inkscape so lightburn recognises them?
Layer colors are documented here: docs.lightburnsoftware.com/LayerColors.html
*Always enjoy your videos!* Great project and resource! It inspired a video, and I'll credit you in it. _You really need more subs!_
Thanks Rich! I appreciate that and look forward to seeing what it inspired.
@@thetinkerverse I'll tag you in the video.
You might want to use the 'Cut selected objects' option just to make life easier.
Yes, that's one option but ultimately these would be stacked 3 to a sheet so it was easier to just split them into multiple files. As for moving the one to the tool layer, about the same effort since I still needed to move the layers around anyway. But absolutely cut selected is an option if you only want to send certain shapes to the laser.
Neat. Informative. Beautifully elegant.
Thanks!
Great video. Funny I was looking for a website like this. Love the logo showing through. Only thing I would add it the words Thank You above it. Also the custom folding tool was a great idea.
Yep, that's not a bad idea
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Ingenious. Love the idea. I also had never heard of that website. Looks like a great resource. Thank you!
I've used it a bunch now and it's great. So far all of the designs I've tried have only needed minimal refinement, mostly to clean up all the text and stuff they include on the file.
Very smart, the use of the 3D printed wrapping tool! Does the lasercutting leave the box with a pungent burnt cellulose smell? Greetings from the Netherlands.
There is some smell but it seems to dissipate much faster than with wood or acrylic.
Very cool thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, happy, cool and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Appreciate the kind words.
Good video, and easy to follow with accurate information. However, here is the correct pronunciation of polygonal. www.google.com/search?q=pronounce+polygonal&rlz=1C1RXQR_enUS997US997&oq=pronounce+polygo&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgAEAAYgAQyBggBEEUYOTIHCAIQABiABDIKCAMQABgKGBYYHjIICAQQABgWGB4yCAgFEAAYFhgeMggIBhAAGBYYHjIMCAcQABgKGA8YFhgeMggICBAAGBYYHjIICAkQABgWGB6oAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
This was super helpful and informative. As a new person to the laser world this is really great timing. Thank you for making the video.
Thank you. I'm planning a handful of fundamental tutorials so definitely subscribe and watch for more.
How do I change the origin. Currently It appears mine is on bottom left and I want to change it to top right. Thanks for the help. Best regards
Hi @williamfoster7920 I changed the origin several times in the video. It's the section that says Origin with 4 circles to choose from. You can find it in Edit > Device Settings or by clicking on the wrench and screwdriver icon in the top toolbar.
@@thetinkerverse Thank you I appreciate your help. Have a great week. William
Do you use without encloser?
Yes but I'm in a controlled environment and wear protective goggles while the machine is in operation. That said, Acmer does offer an closure that fits this machine if you are more comfortable.
Awesome!! Thank you❤
No problem 😊
Thank you! I didn't know to select the second object great video!
Absolutely and thank you!
very nice sharing, thank you very much.😊
Thanks for the opportunity Kobe. This machine is absolutely going to find a permanent home in my shop along side my CO2 and Fiber. It complements them nicely.
@@thetinkerverse glad to hear that
I’m very new to light burn.. this video is very helpful. You got my subscription… thank you
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and the subscription!
You can do this with the mouse, I just randomly did this but can't work out how I did it lol
Yep, as of 1.5 they added the ability to drag a radius on polygons. Note that as of 1.6 if you need to press the CTRL (WIN) or Command (MAC) for the dot to show up. Look for a small blue dot on your polygons. You can drag that to achieve corner radius and depending on the direction you drag, you will get either a positive or negative radius. This video is back from before 1.0 so there have been a lot of improvements since then.
@@thetinkerverse Ah great, thank you for the fast reply, I'm going to take look right now..!
@@thetinkerverse Brilliant, found it, many thanks 🙏
I'd advise against changing existing hot keys. Every time you watch/read anything on Lightburn and someone mentions the hot keys they are using you're going to have to think to yourself what that hot key is supposed to do, and what did you change it to. You're better off in the long run just learning the hot keys as default.
Great video, it also tells me to take some time to learn the LB functions instead of just using the basics. LB is so much more powerful than I knew. Thanks!
Your videos are for me are my favourite tutorials for lightburn. You explain everything so clearly for a newbie. I know the fonts at the end as single line fonts. Thank you
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
How can I make a an infinite symbol but have the center of the Infiniti symbol where they meet become a radius and not a 90 angle?
Are you asking for something that looks like this? imgur.com/a/LLtldUF
@@thetinkerverselike the center of a bicycle chain link. Where the center curves like an hour glass
@@thomascristaldi9303 Like this then: imgur.com/a/4EYNUU9
@@thetinkerverseabsolutely. I’m trying to make one roughly 4”X8”
is there a way to engrave the negative space not the actual project aka backround removal
Put a border around the entire thing on the same layer and it will invert it.
Thanks for the review of the product, would you recommend it for cutting leather for thicknesses no greater than 5 mm?
I don't have anything that thick to try but I would guardedly say it's possible. Would have a better shot with the powered z-axis (they still haven't sent me mine @atomstack) to lower the focus each pass.
9:26 The Edit Hotkeys menu item is now on the Preferences submenu on the File menu. Thanks for the useful tips.
Best video I've seen on node editing. I understand much more. Thanks
Great Video . Thanks for taking the time to shoot and edit all of this.
Thank you so much for this vid- I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of the curve nodes for a while- hoving over the line and using 'L' did the trick. This is going to help me so much in the future. Great video!
Thanks guys the info. I'm new, but thank you you for the butt shape segment
Hi Carl, really learning a lot from your lightburn videos, I have a quick question, how do you make the fill on text or shapes appear on the screen ?
Shift + Alt + W is the hotkey or go to Window > Toggle Wireframe / Filled. Content would have to be on a fill layer to show like this otherwise it stays wireframe.
When i import 2 SVG rectangles with rounded corners from Inkscape and i change the size of both at the same time the radii are not the same. Is there any option for this?
That is a great tool. I was able to create quite a spectacular design (If I say so myself) following your initial tips with the circle, rectangle, polygon, boolean tools. Lightburn is pretty amazing - thank you for your simple instructions.
Fantastic!
Why do I get a pop up warning me that the cut may be "out of bounds" and ask if I want to continue?
Didnt even had a clue about this, thanks a lot man 😮❤
Great tips! Boolean assist and reassign hotkeys,...who knew?
Wow - I watched yesterday and kept missing something (a node and my attention span). Watched today and was able to replicate. I went with the first wedge node/auto-join, much more accurate and simpler for me. Thank you.
Thank you - very straightforward, no waffle and no loud music blasting over your voice.
This was excellent - thanks very much for taking the time to go through and demonstrate the options. Cheers!
Tahnks for your videos! I wonder Wahy I not cant edit existing text.
This is a great video. Did anyone ever tell you that you sound just like David Letterman? 😅
LOL, nope, don't think I've heard that one before. I'll have to ask my wife if she agrees :)
I have watched numerous videos on LB software. You aced it! Your teaching skills and approach is far superior to any other I have viewed. You obviously have some background or past experience as an instructor. You should have a donation link. I would definitely contribute.
I appreciate the kind words. I've never been a teacher but I have a lot of experience as a proxy between developers and users which tends to translate well. My biggest criticism of doing videos like this is that I wish it was more of a back-and-forth with users than me droning on.
